LATEST UPDATES ON PARIS OLYMPICS 2024 VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Organizers of the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are currently in need of 45,000 volunteers from other countries. The volunteers must be willing to work without pay at this global sports event.
The organizers are willing to accept citizens from outside the EU’s Schengen zone who may need to complete additional paperwork, as well as citizens from third countries. Citizens of third countries who want to travel to the Schengen countries like France for the purpose of attending either a cultural or a sports event need to apply for a short-stay Schengen visa.
The current requirements for applying for a tourist Schengen visa include proof of accommodation, proof of travel health insurance, proof of financial means, and a roundtrip reservation, among others. The applicants must ensure that their travel document (passport) is valid for three months after the day they plan to leave the Schengen Zone. Furthermore, it should be noted that passports older than ten years are not accepted for this purpose.
According to information gathered from an ABC news report, they want the group of volunteers to include at least 3,000 people with disabilities, in line with a policy to promote diversity and inclusion, and to further support the fact that the event is open to all groups of people without any bias or discrimination. The French government’s minister for people with disabilities, Geneviève Darrieussecq, considers the Paris 2024 Olympics event as a magnificent opportunity to further show that the country is more inclusive.
“People with disabilities often lack confidence in themselves and think of themselves as excluded from all these events. And here we’re telling them, No, on the contrary. Not only are you not excluded, but we need you,” the Ministerstated.
The minister further urged people with disabilities to sign up as volunteers, emphasizing that all persons are welcome and there will be no basis for discrimination.
Despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the French authorities have announced that applicants from Russia as well as Belarus will also be accepted as volunteers for this global sports event.
There are certain requirements which volunteer applicants need to meet in order to be selected to help in this event. They need to be at least 18 years, they must speak English or French, and they must be available for a minimum of ten days during the Olympics or Paralympics.
